Four Seasons: What financial advice should be

Our story started back in 2005 when we were founded. The dilemma back then was that most firms earned their income from commission. This didn’t feel right to us, so we became one of the first fee based advisors in the country. The FCA changed the rules in 2013, making all advisors fee based (commission banned) for investment/pensions.

Today, we continue to innovate by being one of the first to offer:

  • Fixed initial advice fees (not percentage based).
  • Guaranteed value for money.
  • To specialise in retirement advice, in two main areas – 1) Getting to retirement in great financial shape 2) Advice at and during retirement.

We have grown from a one man band in a broom cupboard of an office in Epsom, to a team of five highly qualified and experienced specialists (Pensions, investments, tax and financial planning).

In 2008  We set about improving our planning process for clients, and signed up for the market leading software called Voyant. We have a saying  “It’s better to prepare than repair”. What should you be preparing for, and indeed looking forward to?  What can you not repair easily, if things go wrong? What needs to be done and when? Are you going to be OK?  We have helped over eighty clients answer these questions with the aid of our experience and planning tools.

In 2017 – We added the superb investment support from Ned Davis Research, including Tim Hayes (CNBC & Bloomberg contributor). This provides our clients with the personal service of a small firm, but with the research expertise of the leading and largest wealth management companies. The results have been incredibly positive.

We see our job as giving our clients. a better return on life, through their money. We would say that’s the most satisfying part of our job and the reason WHY we still get a buzz out of what we do.

Professionally

Ray founded Four Seasons thirteen years ago. “I wanted to offer something different from many other advisers. I wanted to concentrate on long term advice, building ongoing relationships and to be totally focussed on meeting our clients objectives, not selling products. These are still the guiding principle behind Four Seasons and the reason why we enjoy what we do.”

Ray is currently finishing off his retirement masterclass podcast series. He also enjoys helping new advisors on their career path.

Personally

Away from the office Ray’s married with two daughters, one of whom has just started at Durham University. He enjoys most sports, plays golf well enough to be frustrated on a regular basis and tries to keep fit on his road bike – but probably not as often as he should.

All financial advisers in the UK must be registered on the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) register and hold a valid Statement of Professional Standing (SPS).
